Schloss Vollrads SV Sommer Riesling QbA trocken

Schloss Vollrads is one of the oldest Wine Estates in the world. Wine sales have been documented as early as 1211 and ever since. They are solely focused on producing Riesling wines at the vineyard, which totals 200 acres. It is their goal to produce Rieslings of highest quality which exhibit the individuality and complexity of the Riesling grape as well as the authentic characteristics of the soil. This passion for quality is shared by each member of Schloss Vollrads, from the vineyard, to the cellar, to the Vinothek.

Dr Rowald Hepp was winemaker and estate director of Schloss Vollrads from 1997 to November 2020. One of his first acts upon taking over management of the 900-year-old property in 1985 was to uproot all the vines other than Riesling. Muller Thürgau, Sylvaner, Ehrenfelser etc, all went. Today the estate is 100% riesling. Over the past 22 years he has realigned the traditional Riesling winery: The renovation of the castle grounds which had previously fallen into disrepair, the expansion of the vineyards, the intensification of the event business and the operation of the estate restaurant under his own management all fall within this period, as does the development of an international distribution network for Vollrads wines and the conversion to organic wine. Hepp has received several awards for his work, such as the prestigious Gault Milleau Winemaker of the Year Award for 2001 and 2002 and the "Weinpersönlichkeit des Jahres (2019)” as well as an international wine judge for publications like Decanter magazine.
