The judging has been concluded for this year’s Global Sparkling Wine Masters, taking in hundreds of samples from all major fizz-making areas of the world. This bottle wowed the judges for its depth of flavour and layers of complementary characters, leading it to gain the highest set of scores from our tasters, all of whom awarded it close to a maximum of 100 points, elevating it to the status of Sparkling Wine Master 2020.

Magnificent creamy-textured fizz with layers of flavour from fresh apple to ripe nectarine and lemon zest, toast and roasted nuts, with a refreshing dry, chalky sensation on the finish, lifted by tangy acidity that tastes like fine shavings of citrus peel. One of the first names in the region of Cava to take on the top classification of Cava de Paraje Calificado.

Familia Ferrer

Familia Ferrer was founded in 2018 by José Maria Ferrer and his wife Suzanna, despite the family's extensive and well-documented history in the region. They have owned La Freixeneda farm since the 12th century and have been producing wine in Mediona, Alt Penedès since 1616.

The family owns 200 hectares of vineyards at elevations between 385 and 715 meters, where cooler growing season temperatures help the grapes develop delicate flavors and higher acidity.

Can Sala exclusively uses Parellada and Xarel.lo grapes, with Parellada comprising at least 50% of the blend. While Xarel.lo is widely regarded as the definitive Cava grape, José Maria champions Parellada for its ability to retain freshness, elegance, and acidity when farmed in cooler sites.
