The Barossa’s Gibson Wines is celebrating being awarded the Best Shiraz in Show, after the results of the 2022 London Wine Competition were released overnight.
The small winery in the Northern Barossa, founded by Rob and Anne Gibson, took out Gold Medal and Best Varietal in Show for the Shiraz/Syrah category, for the 2019 Gibson ‘Reserve’ Shiraz.
“After being out walking vineyards picking the 2022 crop, having dodged hail and all that the last year has thrown us, it’s bloody good to hear our efforts are paying off”, said Rob Gibson. “This is our 14th vintage of Reserve Shiraz but our very first entry into the London Wine Competition – what a way to start!”, he added.
The 2019 ‘Reserve’ Shiraz vintage was a blend of over 30 individual Shiraz parcels, a reflection of Gibson’s philosophy of layering flavour and complexity from various sites and growers across the Barossa.

Gibson Wines
Gibson Wines was established in 1996 and draws on over 45 years of experience of its founder; viticulturist, geologist and winemaker, Rob Gibson. Rob – with wife Anne and son Adam – uphold a ‘wine growing’ philosophy. A belief deeply rooted in an understanding of the relationship between vineyards, their cycle of growth and maximising flavour intensity in resultant wines. During his years studying at Roseworthy College, and later as head of the first viticultural department of Penfolds, Rob’s passion for wine growing and geology led him to be known as ‘The Dirtman’. The Dirtman moniker continues with Gibson, as does the pursuit for maximising flavour.

Rob ‘Gibbo’ Gibson is the namesake behind the brand you know and love. Chief wine guy, head of Gibbology and most importantly, The Dirtman. Gibbo loves nothing more than sharing his wine and enjoying the Barossan country lifestyle. Oh, and he loves the Melbourne Demons too, we can never forget that.
Anne is the backbone of Gibson’s, particularly around pay day or when an invoice comes in. She has an eye for detail so is often seen patrolling the grounds. She is always happy to support the team where needed. Anne looks after the finance side of the business and keeps Gibbo in line, which includes him in charge of the morning coffee run. She certainly has him well trained.
