2018 marks the 25th anniversary of The Balvenie DoubleWood, and so to celebrate Balvenie is looking back at its journey. The Balvenie released this limited edition specially designed by Master distiller, David Stewart, initiator of the double maturation process, in Bourbon barrels and Sherry casks. This 25-year-old DoubleWood is a distillery-based whisky blended in 1993, when the 12-year-old DoubleWood was launched. It was then finished in Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks for 3 months.
“The final liquid has a lovely combination of sweetness and spice, with candied orange, some honey syrup on the nose, followed by a velvety mouth-coating taste, with layers of brown sugar and sweet dried fruits,” Stewart says, "with a finish full of oak and sherried sweetness" thanks to the two kinds of casks.
