The Coffey Still is the world’s first patented continuous still invented by Mr. Aeneas Coffey in 1830. Masataka Taketsuru valued the feature of this type of still, which retains the flavors of ingredients and also creates a distinctive texture. Coffey Grain and Coffey Malt are Nikka’s signature grain whiskies which show the beauty of our Coffey Stills. Nikka Coffey Grain is predominantly made from corn and distilled in a Coffey Still. What does this wine tast like?
Nikka
Born in 1894 into a family of sake producers, Masataka Taketsuru is considered the father of Japanese whiskey. After training as a chemist, he was hired by the Settsu Shuzo company which sent him to Scotland in 1918 to do his apprenticeship. He developed a passion for whiskey and decided to devote his life to it. In 1934, he built Yoichi, his first distillery, on the island of Hokkaido. Its growing success allowed it to establish a second in 1969 near Sendai: Miyagikyo. It is from the single malts of these two distilleries that the Nikka Whiskey group declines its entire range of Japanese whiskeys.
