Tasting Note
A magnificent old vintage Armagnac from Domaine Boingères. This is a tiny domaine, with just over 50 acres of vineyards, but also one of the most well respected in the region. Their small farmland has been cultivated by the same family for 6 generations, dating back to 1807. Domaine Boingères makes a point of devoting over half their land to the production of the notoriously difficult to grow Folle Blanche grape. The grape is rewarding however, in that it provides a delicious, oily and spicy fruit perfect for the production of Armagnac. The Domaine uses traditional Armagnac continuous stills that you would forgiven for thinking were pot stills, due to their squat and wide appearance. With these they regularly distil as low as 52%, which means no dilution is required before both casking and bottling, ensuring an excellent strength of flavour. Domaine Boingnères adds no caramel colouring to their spirit, nor do they chill filter.
What does this wine tast like?

Located in the heart of Bas-Armagnac terroirs, in the Landes area, in Bastide d’Armagnac, the vineyard offers the finest land for its three grape varieties: Folle Blanche, Ugni Blanc and Colombard. Harvests are gathered by machine, with special tippers that enable the juice to be collected on an interior plate. Two vats, of 30 and 40 hectolitres, enable blending to be carried out. The estate has three vat houses. The Sier alembic was built by Mr Broustet: its “spider’s legs” plates allow alcohol vapours to steep in the wine. In the vat, vapours cool through a 62-metre long serpentine. The wine heats and then runs back along with stacked plates. In a closed circuit, passing through the swan’s neck follows the legendary process of continuous distillation, characteristic of Armagnac, which produces 52° of alcohol. Bottling is carried out as orders come in because Armagnac can only age in casks. In the storehouse, time passes slowly, enhancing this priceless eau-de-vie, whose vapours exude and fill the air with their powerful scents.
